Copyright Agent A/S, in partnership with APIX Syndication, a business registered under the laws of Australia, and two US photographers, is pleased to announce the successful resolution of its dispute with Express Newspapers, publishers of the Daily Star. The case concerned five photographs taken by two world-class photographers. The photographers had appointed APIX to manage the licensing of these photographs, and APIX in turn appointed Copyright Agent to enforce their rights against infringers. Express Newspapers unlawfully published the photographs in its newspaper a total of seven times without a valid license. This constituted seven separate infringements of the photographers’ copyrights. Copyright Agent initially sought to resolve the matter directly and amicably in-house. However, as Express Newspapers failed to respond or engage, Copyright Agent subsequently instructed its UK solicitors, Sonder & Clay, to pursue the enforcement of the copyrights.
In July 2025, Express Newspapers settled the claim by paying £13,250, which included full legal costs. Copyright Agent extends its sincere thanks to Sonder & Clay for their assistance in yet another successful enforcement action, as well as to its own legal team: Lara R. Amen (Cand.jur., Manager of the Legal and Collections Department) and Jamie Solomon (Cand.jur.), whose efforts were instrumental in bringing this case to a successful conclusion.
